FAQs

Application Process

Who is eligible to live at East Campus Graduate Apartments?

Any full-time UT Austin graduate student is eligible. Applicants must be continuing, full-time graduate students at UT or submitted a graduate programs application to the University.

In order to receive a contract offer for East Campus Graduate Apartments, students must be admitted to the University and must meet the minimum enrollment hours requirement of nine hours per term. Enrollment is not required through the summer semester; however, you must be admitted to the University and be working towards a degree.

How does the process work?

Step 1:

Fill out and submit your East Campus Graduate Apartments application in the housing portal, where you will indicate your preference for room type and roommate. The sooner you apply for housing, the higher you will be on our waiting list, which betters your chances of getting a contract. There is a $50 non- refundable application fee. Your housing fee is waived for your first year at UT Austin if your admission application fee was waived. Please note that the East Campus Graduate Apartments housing application is its own and entirely separate from applying for our other housing options.

If you are a prospective UT Austin graduate student, you must complete your University of Texas at Austin admission application to be eligible to submit your housing application. You do not have to be admitted to UT to apply for housing.

Step 2:

Receive your housing contract offer. You must accept admission to UT to be eligible to receive a housing contract. Check for this email regularly, and once received, please note the contract offer expiration date listed in the email. A $500 advance payment must be submitted through the housing portal prior to signing your contract. The $500 prepayment is a financial commitment for your reservation and will be applied to your first month’s rent or any cancellation fees. You can add your room type preferences when you sign your contract.

Missed the deadline to sign your contract? Our housing reservations team can help. Call 512-471-3136 or email our housing team.

Step 3:

We will notify you when you can select your room and schedule your move-in date. Once you have your move-in date, prepare to move to East Campus Graduate Apartments.

How can I request accessible accommodations?

If you have a medical or disability-related need that impacts where you will live, please indicate the type of accommodation you will require in the space provided on your housing application. You will need to submit a request and documentation to Disability and Access (D&A). They will review the documentation you provide and forward our office the recommendations regarding your housing accommodations. All disability information will be kept confidential within D&A. Your request will not be processed unless you submit the documentation to D&A. Learn more about the complete accommodation request process through D&A.

How are contract offers prioritized?

Contract prioritization will be given to students in programs where the expectation is to provide competitive funding, such as Ph.D. students and those earning the highest degrees in their fields. We may limit the number of contracts we offer to other graduate students. Contracts will be offered to current and incoming graduate students in application date order based on available space.

When are contracts offered?

Contract offers will be sent to current UT Austin graduate students beginning December 2023. Incoming UT Austin graduate students will receive offers starting April 15, 2024 to align with the Council of Graduate Schools April 15 Resolution.

How does the roommate process work for two bedroom apartments?

When you fill out your application, you will have access to our Roommate Profile Tool to answer questions about your living preferences. You will be able to self-select your room from our available spaces during room selection. You will be able to see the profile information of a student already in the apartment to help with your selection.

How much does it cost and what does the monthly rate include?

The 2024-25 rates are preliminary. Final rates will not exceed these amounts and are subject to review and approval by the UT System. See our East Campus Graduate Apartments rates page for comprehensive information. The monthly rate includes the cost of room, all utilities (electricity and water), laundry, internet and trash service.

How long is the contract period?

Leases begin and end on the dates listed in the Contract Terms and Conditions. Contracts are 12 months. Contract renewal for the following year takes place during the spring term, during which renewal instructions will be sent to current residents wishing to remain in their assigned apartment. The new term will have new rates. New rates are subject to change and will be available when the renewal process begins.

What happens to my East Campus Graduate Apartments housing contract if I graduate or my academic plans change before the end of my contract period?

The housing contracts and Terms and Conditions are designed to fit students’ unique academic needs. Contracts end on the last day of the month in which you graduate or May 31 each year, whichever occurs first.

Does the housing contract include parking? Where can I park?

Parking is not included in the housing contract. Parking and Transportation Services manages student parking. Resident parking (Class R) permits in nearby East Campus Garage (ECG) will be available for purchase in the coming months. If you have questions about parking and where residents can park, email Parking and Transportation Services or call them at 512-471-PARK.
