Familiarize yourself with Mooov-In, our annual check-in event for students moving to campus. During Mooov-In, students go to a pre-determined check-in location to pick up their room keys before moving their belongings into their respective residence halls or Dobie Twenty21. This page will guide you through the Mooov-In process for fall 2023.

Starting Monday, July 3, students can begin scheduling check-in times in their housing portal to move into the on-campus residence halls and Dobie Twenty21 during Mooov-In. This year’s centralized check-in, the time most students arrive, will take place at UFCU Disch-Falk Field between 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 18 and 19. Students can check in as early as 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 for an additional $50 per day. Overnight and extended check-in timeslots are also available to students unable to check in early or during centralized check-in.

Pre-Arrival Checklist

Ensure a smooth Mooov-In by completing these essential tasks prior to arrival on campus.

Preparing for Mooov-In

When can I move in to my residence hall or Dobie Twenty21?

Once the Mooov-In scheduler opens in the housing portal on Monday, July 3, students can sign up for one of four check-in timeslots:

Early check-in (incurs a $50 per day fee)

  • When: Monday, Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 18 at 5 a.m.
  • Where: Your residence hall’s designated front desk

Centralized check-in

  • When: Friday, Aug. 18 – Saturday, Aug. 19 from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. each day
  • Where: UFCU Disch-Falk Field (east of campus and IH-35)

Overnight check-in

  • When: Friday, Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. through Saturday, Aug. 19 at 5 a.m.
  • Where: Your residence hall’s designated front desk

Extended check-in

At their check in-time, students will first go to their designated check-in location to pick up their room key before moving belongings into their residence hall. It is important to arrive at the assigned check-in time to help limit the amount of traffic on campus and provide everyone with a smooth experience.

Note: On Aug. 18 and 19 between 5 – 7 a.m. and 8 – 9 p.m., there is no check-in available as room keys are relocated to and from UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Can I move in before early check-in begins?

No. The earliest students can check in for the fall semester is 3 p.m. (CDT) on Monday, Aug. 14. Staff will not be able to assist you if you try to move in prior to this time.

Can I move in after centralized check-in ends?

If students need to move in after 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19 they can notify us in advance to avoid having their contract canceled. Students can do this online in their housing portal.

Can I change my room assignment?

Through July 31, students can change rooms themselves in the housing portal through the room swap page. Available rooms change throughout the month as students move to different spaces so continue checking and you may see new options. If you and your roommate would like to move together, you both need to select the same room to move to.

Starting Aug. 1, students have access to the room change request form through their housing portal. We will work through requests in the order they’re received. Room changes are facilitated based on availability and may not be immediate.

What should I bring with me to live on campus?

Check out our what to bring page.

How many people should I bring to Mooov-In?

We recommend bringing only the guests you need to help you move in.

Note: Parking is limited on campus. Cars with trailers will not fit in the parking garages, and therefore are not recommended.

Are there elevators in the halls?

Elevators are only accessible in Duren, Jester East, Jester West, Kinsolving, San Jacinto and Dobie Twenty21, so pack accordingly to carry items upstairs in the other halls.

Should I bring a dolly or rolling cart?

Yes, if you are able. Each residence hall has a limited number of carts available to check out for a short period of time.

How do I cancel my residence hall contract?

If students need to cancel their housing contract, there is a $300 cancellation fee if they cancel on or before July 1, 2023. Students canceling their housing contracts after July 1, 2023 will receive a $500 cancellation fee. After Aug. 1, 2023, the cancellation penalty will be $1,000. If the student paid a $300 prepayment, this will be applied to their applicable cancellation penalty and the student would be responsible for the remaining balance. If the prepayment was deferred during the contract process, students will see the full balance owed for the cancellation fee. Students must email the housing team to cancel.

How do I cancel my Dobie Twenty21 housing contract?

If students need to cancel their Dobie Twenty21 housing contract, there is a $300 cancellation fee if they cancel on or before April 1, 2023. Students canceling their Dobie Twenty21 housing contracts after April 1, 2023 will receive a $500 cancellation fee. After May 1, 2023, the cancellation penalty will be $1,000. If the student paid a $300 prepayment, this will be applied to their applicable cancellation penalty and the student would be responsible for the remaining balance. If the prepayment was deferred during the contract process, students will see the full balance owed for the cancellation fee. Students must email the housing team to cancel.

Early, Overnight and Extended Check-In Details

Where do I check in?

If students are checking in early, overnight or during the extended check-in time frame, they’ll first go to the designated front desk for their residence hall at the check-in time in their housing portal. After showing their photo ID, they’ll receive their room key, bathroom code (if applicable), information on where to park and a parking pass.

Note: After you accept your key, you cannot be released from your contract. The 2023-24 housing contract ends May 7, 2024. Refer to the 2023-24 Residence Hall Housing Terms and Conditions or DobieTwenty21 Terms and Conditions for further information.

What should I bring with me to check in?

Students will need to present a valid photo ID at check-in to receive their room key. Valid IDs include a UT ID card or a current government-issued photo ID. If students don’t have their UT ID card, we will issue them a temporary card for 72 hours. Students without UT ID cards can request one online or in person at the ID Center located in the Flawn Academic Center.

Where should I park?

All residents will be directed to park in a nearby garage before moving belongings into their room. Pull a ticket at the garage entrance and use the parking pass you receive at check-in to exit the garage. The parking process can be repeated as needed. Dobie Twenty21 residents will have the option to park in the Dobie Center Garage, which they’ll receive six-hour parking validation for when they check in.

Tips to avoid tickets, fines or towing:

  • Check the parking signs carefully to avoid ticketing or towing. This includes fire lanes, disabled parking spaces, along yellow curbs or any space designated as “Permit Required At All Times.”
  • Look out for parking meters to ensure you are not in a metered space (usually marked “Pay-To-Park”).
  • If your vehicle is ticketed for whatever reason, University Housing and Dining has no jurisdiction in the matter. Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) recommends following the appeal instructions listed on the citation.
During overnight check-in, is there a time where I can’t move my belongings into my room?

No, but out of courtesy for other residents already in the building, we ask that from 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. students move only what is necessary to their room to reduce noise during sleeping hours.

How much is the fee for checking in early?

There is a $50 per day fee for checking in early charged to the What I Owe page as part of the housing bill. Nothing is due until the first payment of the housing bill.

Centralized Check-In Details

What is centralized check-in? Why does it take place at UFCU Disch-Falk Field?

We host key pick-up at UFCU Disch-Falk Field to accommodate everyone faster; anticipate a wait time of 15 – 20 minutes to check in. All students must pick up their keys from UFCU Disch-Falk Field prior to unloading at their residence hall. People wearing official Mooov-In shirts will be available to answer any questions.

Note: After you accept your key, you cannot be released from your contract. The 2023-24 housing contract ends May 7, 2024. Refer to the 2023-24 Residence Hall Housing Terms and Conditions or DobieTwenty21 Terms and Conditions for further information.

After Mooov-In

Can I change my room assignment after July 31?

If a student decides they want to change rooms after July 31, they need to take the following steps:

  • Fill out a room change request on their My Housing page. Students are able to indicate hall and roommate preferences for their room change.
  • If the request is approved, it will be forwarded to Occupancy Management where it will be handled based on housing application date order. If the request has been labeled as an urgent need, Occupancy Management will attempt to make the room change as soon as possible.
  • When a vacancy is available, the student is notified. Some room changes are able to happen within the week of them being requested. Others may take all semester. It depends on the availability of the hall and room type that the student is requesting.
  • If two students want to do a mutual room swap (where they trade places with each other), they still go through the first two steps above.
When does my meal plan start?

Unlimited meal plan holders – which includes all residents of our on-campus residence halls and any Dobie Twenty21 resident who has purchased an unlimited meal plan for the fall term – can begin using their plan when the residence halls officially open on August 18 at 7 a.m. Their fall term Dine In Dollars ($300) and Bevo Pay ($100) will be available as soon as they arrive on campus. These can be used at any open on-campus dining location that accepts these payment types, including the dining halls.

We encourage all meal plan holders to view current dining hours of operation by scrolling to the status tracker at the bottom of our homepage. Click on a location’s name within the homepage tracker to view its scheduled service hours for the week.

What can I do once I move in?

Once officially moved in to your new home on campus, the possibilities for finding community are endless. Make plans to attend Longhorn Welcome, a series of events designed for you to meet your peers, gain valuable resources and celebrate UT’s culture and tradition.
