As you leave the on-campus residence halls for winter break, make sure you’ve completed the fall departure process applicable to you before the halls close on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. Whether you’re returning in the spring or moving out permanently, we’ve listed a few key items for you to know. Check out the Fall Departure Process webpage for full details.

2400 Nueces, University Apartments and East Campus Graduate Apartments remain open during winter break, so residents do not have to follow the fall departure process.

What should all on-campus residents know? The on-campus residence halls close on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. and reopen on Friday, Jan. 9 at 9 a.m. Attend your floor or wing meeting and complete the fall departure resident checklist before you leave campus for winter break. Take your belongings before departing campus, as you will not be able to return to your room until residence halls reopen. Make sure to defrost your room’s MicroFridge to avoid a $20 fine – follow our defrosting and cleaning instructions.

Returning in the spring? You don’t need to move all your items out of your room, but you do need to be out of your on-campus residence hall by Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. Once the residence halls close, you cannot return to your room until the hall reopens on Friday, Jan. 9 at 9 a.m., so be sure to take any essential belongings with you.

Moving out permanently? You will have additional tasks to complete to successfully move out of the residence halls. You can find these tasks on our fall departure resident checklist. Please note that your release form request is due by Saturday, Nov. 15 and must be sent to housing@austin.utexas.edu. You are also expected to move out by Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m., so please make sure all of your tasks are completed by then to avoid any fines.
