What’s in a Room on the Forty?

Two UT students pose together in a residence hall room during Mooov-In.

Before you join us on campus, take a look at what is already in your room to get a better idea of what to bring and what to leave behind.

In all of our on-campus residence halls and DobieTwenty21, each room comes furnished with a desk, desk chair, dresser and extra-long twin bed for each roommate. All rooms also have a combination microwave/refrigerator (MicroFridge), trash can, recycling bin, shelving and hanging space, bulletin boards and window blinds. Some rooms come with a thermostat to control the temperature while others are temperature-controlled through our facilities team (you can submit a maintenance request to adjust the temperature).

What you need to bring in terms of bathroom supplies depends on whether you selected a community, shared or private bath. For community bathrooms, all you need to bring are your personal toiletries (and some shower shoes). These bathrooms are stocked with toilet paper, have shower curtains and are cleaned daily. With a shared or private bath, in addition to your personal toiletries, you need to bring your own toilet paper, hand soap and cleaning supplies (you are responsible for cleaning your own bathroom).

Not every room looks exactly the same. The orientation varies as far as where the furniture is placed, where the bulletin boards are, the shelving and hanging space, the windows, etc. Below is a photo of a room in San Jacinto Hall. For a look at rooms in other residence halls, check out our 3D tours by visiting our Residence Hall Locations and Dobie Twenty21 pages, clicking on your hall and exploring representative layouts of room types and their furnishings.
