Longhorns, welcome to your home on the Forty! It's time to settle in, enjoy all our campus offers and get hooked on the Longhorn experience. Although you’re living on your own, we’re here to support you and offer resources so you can become familiar with campus.

Here are our top tips to help you feel right at home on the Forty by getting involved on campus and building a strong network of fellow Longhorns.

Connect with your roommate
A great place to start making friends is your roommate(s). Living with someone is a learning experience and making it enjoyable requires communication. Start by setting boundaries and finding common interests. We suggest getting to know each other by eating together in the dining halls.

Meet your RA
Get to know your resident assistant (RA) as you settle in. RAs are always open to answer any questions you may have. You can meet more residents by attending events hosted by your RA or community.

Attend events
We host a variety of events throughout the academic year that we list on our website. Click on a particular listing to view an event’s full details, including its time and location. Get reminded about any upcoming event by adding it to your Google, Outlook or iCal calendar from its listing page.

Use social media as a tool
We encourage you to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for fun content, event notifications and information about life on the Forty. Follow other UT-affiliated departments and organizations to stay informed about what’s happening on campus.

Join organizations
A great way to meet students with similar interests is joining one of 1,100+ campus organizations. Being a member of student organizations helps you make friends, be a part of a community and grow your professional skills. Recruitment typically happens early in the term, so be on the lookout.

Register for intramural sports
UT RecSports offers an intramural sports (IM) program where students can join competitive and recreational sports leagues for students of all skill levels. Whether you want to play your favorite sport or try something new, IM sports are a great way to stay active and meet other students.
