Housing Process

step 1

Getting Started

A. Complete your UT Admission Application. Once your My Status for the Admissions application is Admissions Complete, you will have a Housing tab that let you know that you are eligible to apply for housing.

B. Apply for housing (https://hf-housing.austin.utexas.edu/StarRezPortal). There is a $50 non-refundable application fee. The earlier you apply for housing, the more likely you are to receive a housing contract and your top preferences. Receiving a housing contract is not guaranteed, as they are sent based on availability in housing application date order. The housing application opens on August 1.

step 2

Returning Your Contract

A. Once you have received your university acceptance letter and you have accepted your enrollment to the university and satisfied your enrollment deposit, you will be eligible to receive a housing contract offer.

B. Housing contract notifications are sent out via email in housing application date order. Once you receive your housing contract, sign and complete it by the expiration date.

If you are 18 or older, you will be able to sign your housing contract online.

If you are not yet 18, you will need to print your housing contract. There will be a space for you to sign, and there will also be a box for a contract guarantor to fill out (typically a parent or guardian). The completed housing contract can then be scanned and uploaded to your housing application portal.  Our staff will verify your contract within 2 business days and give you access to the preference pages.

If you miss the housing contract expiration date, you will no longer have access to the contract and advance payment pages in the housing application portal.

C. The $300 housing advance payment is also due by the contract expiration date. The advance payment will go towards your first housing bill.

step 3

Choosing Your Preferences

A. Once you have submitted your housing contract and advance payment, you will be able to submit your housing preferences. Students are able to rank their top 5 building preferences, select a preferred type of bathroom as well as a preferred roommate.

B. More about Preferences and Room Assignments

step 4

Get Your Room

A. Students will receive an email with a date and time to access the Room Selection process in the housing application portal. Students will choose their room during this timeslot.  The Room Selection timeslot is based on housing application date order.  The Room Selection process happens in mid-June.
