Express Check-Out Procedure

Know the Pros and Cons

The Pros
* No need to sign up for an appointment
*Move out at your own pace (as long as it is before 9 a.m. on May 16th)



The Cons
* You waive the ability to dispute charges (i.e. damages or cleaning)
* You waive the opportunity to be present at the time the room will be checked therefore if damage(s) are found or cleaning is required there is an increased risk of being fined

Express Check-Out Steps

  1. Move all of your belongings out of your room/building
  2. Complete the “Before We Leave" resident checklist
  3. At the 24-hour front desk, fill out an express check-out envelope and return your key by 9 a.m. on May 16th

In-Person Check-Out Procedure

  1. Sign up for an Appointment Time with your RA or at the 24-hour desk in your community (at least 24–hours in advance)
  2. Move all of your belongings out of your room/building
  3. Complete the “Before We Leave" resident checklist
  4. Clean your side of the room thoroughly
  5. Meet an RA at the designated location during your appointment time
  6. Turn in your room key to the RA who checks you out

CHECK-OUTS SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN 10 MINUTES AS LONG AS

  1. All belongings are out of the room/building
  2. You have completed the “Before we leave” resident checklist
  3. There are no damages to the room

Please take notice:

Missing a scheduled check-out time with an RA will result in an improper checkout charge of $25 or more, and you will have to do an Express Check-Out.

Residents failing to leave the building after 9 a.m. on May 16 will be assessed a late check–out fee starting at $50.

Important Details

Update Mail Addresses

  • Change your address on the UT Direct Page (log into https://utdirect.utexas.edu/apps/utd/all_my_addresses/, modify your address as needed, then select “Update This Address”)
  • Check your mailbox before leaving - Residents may not pick up mail at the mailroom after 9 a.m. on May 16th
  • Only first-class mail will be forwarded for a period of 30 days after closing
  • Residents will also need to update their default address with external companies that may continue to ship mail to them (i.e. magazine subscriptions, Amazon packages, etc.)

Adjust Beds to Original Height

Your bed needs to be returned to the same height it was upon check–in. To avoid a $50 charge follow these procedures:

Microfridge Defrosting

Follow the Microfridge Defrost and Cleaning instructions to avoid a $20 Fine.

There will be a FEE, starting at $50, if you do not vacate the hall by 9 a.m.

1-hour loading zone permits or validation of garage parking will be available at your 24–hour desk.*
A limited number of carts will be available for check out - so, make your life easier by bringing your own cart.
*One permit or validation per resident

Please be respectful of others!

Contact the front desk or RA if you need assistance in addressing a noise concern.
Failure to maintain an appropriate noise level may cause early removal from the residence hall.
