Q: Why did Housing and Food Service create the Commuter Meal Plan?
A: The Commuter Meal Plan was created to increase on-campus dining options for students living off campus, as well as for faculty and staff. The plan was also created due to parent demand. Parents asked for a pre-paid plan that designated money for meals at our all-you-care-to-eat dining halls.
Q: Who can buy a Commuter Meal Plan?
A: Non-resident students, faculty & staff can purchase the Commuter Meal Plan.
Q: How will I know when my card is activated?
A: You know your card is activated when you see a balance in your flex dollars and a meal count number greater than 0 after paying the bill through What I Owe. You may need to wait up to 60 seconds and refresh the page after paying.
Q: Is the Commuter Meal Plan available during the summer?
Q: Why do residents pay less than other customers?
A: Housing and Food Service is responsible for providing our residents with the best value. When residents live with us, they support operational costs and are only charged food cost for meals.
Q: Would the cost savings be the same if I used Bevo Bucks or Dine In Dollars rather than buying the Commuter Meal Plan?
A: Both Bevo Bucks and Dine In Dollars provide a 5% discount in Housing and Food Service all-you-care-to-eat locations and a 10% discount on food and beverages at retail locations. The Longhorn 25 Commuter Meal Plan is priced competitively and includes $25 flex dollars for purchases at retail locations with a 10% discount on food and beverages. The best value is the Longhorn 50 Commuter Meal Plan where the cost per meal is less than the Bevo Bucks and Dine In Dollar price.
Q: Can I use my Commuter Meal Plan to pay for a guest meal?
A: Yes! Bring your friends or family members to eat with you anytime!
Q: What if I run out of money on my Commuter Meal Plan?
A: You can re-load your Commuter Meal Plan at any time by purchasing either the Longhorn 25 or Longhorn 50 again.
Q: What if I don’t use all the money on my plan?
A: Don’t worry! Your money will roll over as long as your UT ID is active.
Q: What happens to my Commuter Meal Plan if I leave UT?
A: Once your UT ID is inactive any remaining funds on your Commuter Meal Plan are non-refundable.
